Offline Wikipedia Reader



Main Screen
WikiDroyd is a true offline Wikipedia reader application supporting many different languages like English, German, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, etc.

Browse your local Wikipedia book without needing a network connection. We use one of the best compression methods to keep the file sizes as low as possible.

 



Multiple Books (Databases)

Main Screen
WikiDroyd can manage multiple databases for different languages. Large databases consisting of multiple files are abstracted to a single so-called multi-volume database.

You can switch between your installed database at any time and have one separate history resp. favorites list for each WikiDroyd database.

 


Random Articles


Main Screen
You can tell WikiDroyd to pick a random article from a database you have selected.

This is a nice feature if you just want to browse and explore your WikiDroyd database.

 

Fast Search for Articles


Main Screen
You can search for articles by start typing into the upper text field. WikiDroyd automatically suggests the best matching article and provides a pulldown list to select directly from. The keyword search itself is very fast - check it out.

 

Article View


Main Screen
After selecting an article you can view the content in a special browser window. You can scroll the up and down, pan left and right, change the zoom level, etc.

Articles that are available in your local WikiDroyd database are marked blue. Articles that refer to an external link which requires a network connection is coloured red.

 

Text Search


Main Screen
WikiDroyd allows you to search for a random text inside an article view. Found words are highlighted with a green color.

You can navigate through your search results pressing the left and/or right buttons.


Speech Output

Main Screen newWikiDroyd (version 1.2 and higher) supports reading articles using Android's built-in text to speech engine. Depending on you Wikipedia book's language we pick the right speech synthesis database and start reader the article.

Currently, Android by default supports the languages English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, German and Spanish.

Requirement: Android Platform 1.6 and higher (SDK >=4)

 

Browsing History


Main Screen
WikiDroyd stores all visited articles in a history and allows you to jump directly to a selected article. The number of history elements is limited to a reasonable size. You can clear your history at any time.

 

Favorites


Main Screen
You can bookmark your favorite articles and pick one from this list at any time. We ave limited the number of favorites to a reasonable size. You can clear your favorites list at any time.
